How the work begins
The work begins with the site, what already exists and how a place is meant to be used. In Brisbane's subtropical climate, shade and breeze are considered before mechanical systems. For renovations and additions, the existing building is understood before anything is removed. Budget, structure, approvals and time are treated as design inputs: constraints that focus the work rather than something to disguise.
Connected decisions, not visual moves
Good architecture is not a collection of visual moves. It is a set of connected decisions about climate, use, structure, material and cost. HAJA makes those decisions explicit, tests them and follows them through to the detail. Resources are directed to the parts of a project that matter most: orientation, spatial relationships, thresholds, durable details and the rooms used every day.
Houses, renovations and interiors
Houses are the centre of the practice, from new homes and Queenslander alterations to kitchens and carefully resolved interiors. Selected commercial and fitout work is considered where the brief suits the same approach. Where commissioned, HAJA can carry a project from early site and brief work through concept design, approvals, detailed documentation and construction-stage support.
